Entre el silencio, pasos. El sonido de varias personas caminando alrededor, por un segundo el revuelo le recordó a [[Shared by Emny Moghrabi|los pájaros]] que revolotean antes de volver al nido cuando cae la tarde, qué ganas de volver a escucharlos. Sonrío, sintió [[Shared by Philip Leonard Ocampo|el peso de sus párpados]] cerrados y se dio a sí misma el lujo de mantenerlos así...sólo un poco más. Después de todo, cuando abriera los ojos el mundo sería distinto. Estiró los pies y se hizo consciente del textil de las sábanas bajo su tacto, como lo recordaba, bastante estándar, ni muy muy ni tán tán, no eran las sábanas de franela de su casa pero podrían estar peor. 


[[Shared by Opal McLean|Respiró profundamente]], como esperando que en cada bocanada de aire apareciera un nuevo sabor, bueno, supongo que el aire nunca ha tenido un sabor per sé pero qué maravilla habría sido inhalar una margarita en un instante...o una cuba, o un mojito...ya de perdis una michelada, pero eso sí, ¡bien fría! ni hablar, serán mojitos, lo que me prometió mi hermana. Abrió los ojos...y los cerró al instante. Por un momento sintió lo que un pirata habría sentido al quitarse el parche después de años de traerlo puesto, poco a poco se acostumbró a la luz, cuando por fin pudo mantener los ojos abiertos se dio cuenta de que por primera vez, estaba sola, su primer instinto fue salir corriendo, pero después se dio cuenta de que hacía años — A - Ñ - O - S - que no tenía éste lujo. 


Había pasado [[Shared by Lily Cryan|tanto tiempo encerrada sin privacidad]] que había perdido todo rastro de pudor, sonrió. Vaya libro que voy a escribir ahora. Escrutó el cuarto con la mirada asegurándose de pasar por cada rincón del mismo, ahora sí, ésta era, sin lugar a dudas, la última vez que se encontraba ahí. Lentamente y disfrutando cada paso, caminó hasta el sillón en el que esperaba ese vestido que durante tanto tiempo había guardado tan celosamente para la ocasión. Al levantarlo sintió la frescura de la tela y su suavidad satinada que hacían que el vestido pareciera tan líquido como etéreo, verde aqua, como siempre. Se vistió. Caminó hasta
el espejo y al ver su reflejo no pudo más que pensar que se veía radiante, por primera
vez le dieron ganas de llorar. 


Después de años de encierro, la espera había terminado, aquella guerra incansable había llegado a su fin y hoy por fin estaba segura de que todas aquellas personas, animales y plantas, que amaba estaban ahí, a una puerta de distancia. Todo va a estar bien, se dijo. Levantó la mano, sintió el frío del metal al tocar la manija de la puerta y empujó, el aislamiento eterno había llegado a su fin.

In between silence; footsteps. The sounds of several people walking in my vicinity stirred the memory of [[Shared by Emny Moghrabi|fluttering birds]] on their way back to the nest on a late evening. How she longed to hear them again. She smiled, and felt the [[Shared by Philip Leonard Ocampo|weight of her eyelids]], allowing herself the luxury of keeping them closed… if just for a little longer. After all, whenever she opened them, the world would be different. She stretched her legs and lingered on the texture of fabric. Just as she remembered, pretty normal, neither here nor there. They weren’t the flannel sheets from home but they could be worse. 


[[Shared by Opal McLean|She took a deep breath]], almost wishing that each breath would bring with it a new taste. I guess that air has never had much of a taste, but how marvelous would it be to take in a margarita instantly, ...or a rum & coke, a mojito perhaps... even a michelada, but cold! Truth is they’d be mojitos, just like my sister promised. She opened her eyes… and closed them instantly. For a moment she felt like a pirate,  taking off an eye-patch after years of use, little by little she grew accustomed to the light. When at last she could keep her eyes open she realized that for the first time ever, she was alone. Her first instinct was to run. Slowly, she realized it had been years — Y - E - A - R - S - since she’d had this luxury. 


She had spent [[Shared by Lily Cryan|so much time without any privacy]] that she had lost all sense of modesty, she smiled. What a book she would write! She searched around the room, making sure to consider every corner, this was after all the last time she would find herself here. Slowly, and relishing every step, she walked towards the sofa, the one that held the dress she’d so jealously guarded for just the occasion. As she picked it up she could feel the weightlessness of the fabric and its satin softness that made the dress ephemeral, liquid almost. Aquamarine as always. She put it on. Walked towards the mirror and as she saw her reflection she couldn’t help but feel radiant, for the first time she felt like crying. 	


After years of waiting, her waiting was over, that insurmountable struggle had finished and finally she knew that everyone she loved would be there on the other side of the door: friends, family, plants and animals. She told herself that everything would be fine. She raised her hand and as she felt the cold metal of the door handle, she pushed; eternal isolation at its end.
