Oscar Alfonso works with text, photography, digital media, and installations. He may also write, but he remains unsure if he qualifies. Born en La Ciudad de México and raised in Vancouver, his artistic and research practice focuses on identifying with and reconstructing a relationship to home through a process of Contingent Belonging. This focus takes him to Mexico City, and manifests itself through food, the market, storytelling, the representations of urban childhood in film, and city-building video games as sites of the urban imaginary and architectural preservation.

He holds a BFA in Visual Arts, and a BA in History and Print & Digital Media Publishing from Simon Fraser University on the unceeded Coast Salish Territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. He is currently a Masters of Visual Studies Student at the University of Toronto on the traditional territories of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and the Mississaugas of the Credit.




Oscar Alfonso hace uso de las palabras, la fotografía, medios digitales, e espacios efímeros. Quizás escribe, pero todavía esta inseguro de si él califica. Nacido en la Ciudad de México y transplantado a Vancouver, ejerce sus intereses artísticos e investigatorios con un enfoque en la re-identificación y re-construcción de su relación al hogar a través de un proceso de pertenencia contingente. Este enfoque lo lleva a la Ciudad de México y se manifieste en la comida, el mercado, los cuentos, la representación cinemática de la niñez urbana, y los videojuegos de construcción de ciudades como un sitio para el imaginario urbano y preservación arquitectónica.

El se tituló con una licenciatura (BFA) en Artes Plásticas, y una licenciatura (BA) en Historia y Publicaciones Impresas y de Medios Digitales, otorgados por la Universidad Simon Fraser, ubicada en los territorios ocupados de los Coast Salish, específicamente los de los pueblos xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh). Actualmente está cursando la Maestría de Estudios Visuales de la Universidad de Toronto en los territorios tradicionales de los Wendat, the Seneca, y los Mississaugas of the Credit.
