Dear Avocado.

A few days ago I got a message that asked “for a story about being stuck,” So… Let. Me. Tell. You. I’ll start by confessing that I’ve been eating more avocados lately. I’ve been making sourdough bread because I’m a Virgo, and because there’s a pandemic. So I’ll make bread and then each morning I’ll toast myself a piece of the sourdough I’ve made and then put unsalted butter, mashed up avocado, and then add a fried egg. It’s the perfect breakfast.

I learned how to cut an avocado from a woman I dated over a year ago. Basically you cut it in half and take out the pit, and then you take a very small paring knife and you cut super thin slices vertically and then super thin slices horizontally, and then super thin slices at an angle, and then super thin slices at another angle and then you do the same thing vertically and horizontally at another angle. In the end you’ve mashed up the avocado but it’s still in the skin so it’s the smallest amount of mess you can make with an avocado breakfast. Then you take some lime juice and squeeze it in, add some salt and pepper, mix it, and then put it on your toast. You use a single knife, It’s brilliant.

The problem is, everytime I cut one I can see her hands doing it. I have not spoken to this woman in six months, and we dated for a month and a half over a year ago. I still think about her every single morning because of this avocado ritual and it's so frustrating because I haven’t dated anyone else who's been nearly as impactful since. She was the first person I’ve dated where I really felt “no, I am super gay, I don’t think I like men at all, I think that was just compulsory heterosexuality.” So this is something which made that relationship a really big intense moment for me. I yet don’t have another story to replace hers, so it's just me literally every morning going “I really need to get over this shit, I really need to get over this shit, I really need to get over this shit” as I repeatedly cut an avocado.

I do hope that you, dear avocado tree, won’t mind too much about being told how to cut up an avocado fruit and eat it. I hope you resonate with feeling stuck in some place in some way. I am working on this I promise. I’m on Lex, I’m chatting upbabes left and right. Please somebody just talk to me because I can’t stop cutting avocados this way. It’s too perfect, but maybe now I’ll think of you every morning instead of her.

Querido Aguacate.

Chiste. Soy.
